In the News:  Don't Buy the Hype: be conservative in adopting a new Mac OS major version

Every year in the fall, Apple releases a new major upgrade to its' Mac OS Operating System -- e.g., the software that boots up and runs your Mac.  The release is always heralded with great fanfare, with luminaries taking to the airwaves to extol the latest and (always) amazing new features.  There will be numerous exhortations for you to update your Mac right away.  The current 2025 version of this is well underway, with Mac OS 26 having been introduced in September.

You can bet that these things will happen, without fail, every year; however just as reliably I -- and other respected voices in the Apple Support community -- will strongly suggest that you take all this with a grain of salt, and not update your business and important personal use computers right away.  Stability and reliability are the reasons why; you do not want to gamble with your data that the new release will work well with your systems.  There are many moving parts in a computer workflow, including not only the Operating System but also the various software and services that you interact with.  At Creative Goose, our advice is to let the "Early Adopters" find the bugs, give the software developers time to update their tools to adapt to the new OS, and let Apple release a few patches to their new OS in the first few weeks, which they consistently do.  If you must tinker with the new toys, we suggest you use a secondary computer that does not have mission-critical data as your guinea pig.

As of November 2025, Creative Goose is adopting Mac OS 26 on our internal systems, and will be doing selective upgrades for customers who will see the most benefit.  Mac OS systems are considered "supported" (by Apple and others) for two full years after their initial year.  Creative Goose adheres to this support framework for members of our MSP.
